About Dr. Russ Birdwell

Dr. Russ Birdwell grew up in Garland, Texas. He is a 1985 graduate of South Garland High School. After completing his undergraduate studies at Texas A & M University and Texas Christian University, he earned his medical degree at Texas Tech School of Medicine and there completed his general surgery residency training. During his residency training, Dr. Birdwell had the privilege of working with some of the prominent surgeons in the field including Dr. G. Tom Shires and Dr. John Griswold.

He is board certified in general surgery by the American Board of Surgery and is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons. He is also a member of the Texas Medical Association and the Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honors Society.

Since entering private practice in 2001, Dr. Birdwell joined the medical staff of Baylor Medical Center at Garland, Lake Pointe Medical Center, and Richardson Regional Medical Center. He is trained in a wide range of procedures and has a special interest in laparoscopic surgery.

In his spare time, Dr. Birdwell enjoys hockey, football, and working on his aquarium.
